Eilean, nome che in gaelico significa “piccola isola”, nacque nel 1936 presso i cantieri Fife, su progetto di William Fife III, e venne varata l’anno successivo. Protagonista di 36 traversate atlantiche, Eilean ha navigato tra l’Europa e Antigua per buona parte della propria storia e nel 1982 diventò anche il set per il videoclip di Rio dei Duran Duran. Ritrovata nel 2006, in stato di grave degrado, dall’azienda italiana di alta orologeria Officine Panerai, Eilean venne subito acquistata e trasferita via cargo presso il cantiere Francesco Del Carlo di Viareggio, per essere sottoposta a un restauro integrale e filologico durato oltre tre anni. Lo scafo di Eilean è stato costruito in composito, con il fasciame in teak di Burma spesso quattro cm su ordinate, madieri, bagli e rinforzi in ferro zincato. Durante il refitting è stato recuperato quasi tutto il fasciame originale. Nel 2012 ha attraversato l’Atlantico per partecipare alla Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta.

Eilean, “little island” in Gaelic, was built by the Fife shipyard to a William Fife III design in 1936 and splashed the following year. Eilean has completed no less than 36 Atlantic crossings, and has sailed back and forth between Europe and Antigua for most of her long career. In 1982, she was used as the floating set for Duran Duran’s video for their hit song Rio. In 2006, Eilean was discovered in a very dilapidated condition by luxury Italian watchmaker Officine Panerai. The company immediately purchased her and moved her by cargo ship to Viareggio and the Francesco Del Carlo yard. There she remained for over three years during which time she was completely and meticulously restored. Eilean has a composite hull made of 4 cm Burmese teak planking on galvanised iron ribs, floor plates, beams and reinforcements. Almost all of her original hull planking was saved during her renovations. In 2012, Eilean completed another transatlantic voyage.
