The Provincial Sailing Association of
Imperia was founded in October of 1975, promoted by the local Chamber of Commerce
which responded affirmatively to the invitation of the National Sailing Association, to
establish a provincial branch of the association to carry out activities that would
promote nautical tourism.
Assonautica Provinciale di Imperia carries out all the activities required to develop
pleasure sailing, promotes nautical tourism on a provincial level and all the economic,
productive and social activities related to it. The association also collaborates to
qualify and increase the activities of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and
Agriculture in the sector of nautical tourism.
Major Activities
Regatta of Period Sailboats. Along with the Veteran Boat Rally of Porto Cervo of
which it is the twin, this is the most important event dedicated to Period Sailboats held
in the Mediterranean Sea. About a hundred boats participate to represent the world history
of yachting.
International Sanremo Yacht Meeting. This event is held in the largest tourist port of the
Mediterranean (Portosole – Sanremo). The most prestigious charter yachts in the world
and the major brokers of the sector participate, many of whom come from the U.S.A..
Services
Meteocost. A coastal weather watch service which has been operating since 1985,
watching the coasts of the Ligurian Sea and the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea. The service
consists of providing yacht crews with a telephone number (0184/508.999) that
automatically transmits the observations gathered in the various spots in Liguria, the
French Riviera, Corsica and the Northern Tyrrhenian. The observations are updated three
times a day. Many port facilities and other agencies have a subscription and receive the
observations by means of a bulletin sent by fax.
Shareholding
In 1981 Assonautica of Imperia conferred its facilities installed in the tourist
port of Imperia Porto Maurizio to a service company set up by the City of Imperia.
Assonautica of Imperia owns approximately 14% of the share capital of this company,
Imperia Mare S.p.A, and has two representatives sitting on its Board of Directors. The
other major shareholders are the City of Imperia and the Chamber of Commerce.
