The Imperia Vintage Sails Meeting, Mediterranean's
nautical clou event bound to take place next 8th to 12th September,
has finally set out.
During five days Porto Maurizio's docks, the gathering historical
seat since 1986, will be animated for the 13th time by the most prestigious
vintage and classic yachts of Mediterranean (since 1992 the Meeting
is being held biennially).
The Vintage Sails Meeting is a most important event for both Imperia
and all Mediterranean: the Assonautica of Imperia is the well-known
organizer and the happening will take place as usual under the aegis
of Region Liguria, Province of Imperia, City of Imperia, Chamber of
Commerce, APT Flowers' Riviera Tourist Board and Prefecture. With
the cooperation of Port Capitanerie and Imperia Mare and the sponsorship
of CARIGE Foundaton. Technical collaboration by Imperia Sailing Club
and Naval League. Technical support by A.I.V.E. (Italian Vintage Sails
Association), C.I.M. (International Committee of Mediterranean) and
Italian Yacht Club.
Sponsorships
BMW, celebrating its 75 years of cars construction, will
this year take part in the event and for the occasion put at the
teams disposal a fleet of cars for transfer purposes. Faithful as
always to the meeting two town leader firms: F.lli Carli and
Agnesi which believe in and support the Vintage Sails since
its very birth.
Sanremo's Casino is the other remarkable sponsor linking
this year for the very first time an important prize of literature
to the Vintage Sails.

Programme
The Assonautica of Imperia has already prepared a solid programme
rich in novelties: first among all the return of schoolship Palinuro,
the Italian Navy petty officers training schooner, celebrating in
Imperia its 70 year since launching and giving hospitality for the
occasion to those commanders, still in life, who commanded the prestigious
ship since 1934.
Two appointments have been confirmed again which had a great success
of public during 2002 meeting: the City of Imperia International
Flower Decoration Competition having for subject "The Sea"
and the trade fair "Cargo", showing more than 100
exhibiting firms introducing the visitors to the world of sea.
The Photographic Competition "Vele e dintorni"
showing shots taken during the event, thanks to the great number
of participants and the high quality of material proposed during
last meeting, has been confirmed once again.
Further novelties of 2004 Meeting are the literary prize "Libro
del Mare", born out of the cooperation between Sanremo's
Casino and the exhibition dedicated to the astronomer G. D. Cassini,
organised by La Torre, Imperia's Lions Club.
Button-hole since ever of the Vintage Sails is the Meeting Point,
an area where teams and insiders gather to enjoy mediterranean food.
The Assonautica purpose for 2004 is surpassing itself by increasing
the number of boats and visitors. A great help will come for sure
from the Big Boats Race starting from Mahon (Balearis) next
30 August and expected to arrive in Imperia, after crossing the
Gulf of Lion, a few days before the Meeting.
