IMPERIA 13 - 17 SEPTEMBER THE RENDEZ-VOUS WITH THE IRRESISTIBLE CHARM OF THE "SEA QUEENS" IS DRAWING NEAR

All gathered together, more than 100 of the most beautiful testimonials of last century yachting history: that's Imperia Vintage Sails Meeting.

The Event:
Since 1986 ( till 92 year. Then every two years) in September the docks of Porto Maurizio harbour host these true floating jewels, their beauty a combination of forgotten lines, precious woods, polished brasses and obsolete riggings. Big and small boats, but all of them with a past, often adventurous, sometimes full of mistery. Boats united by the same vanity: racing competitive one more time.
The meeting is considered by fans some way special: thanks to the peculiar scenery, the warm welcome and the rich programme of side events (exhibitions, rendez-vous, music, cabaret, fireworks in music, etc)

When, some 14 years ago, a group of sealovers decided time had come to celebrate in a dignified way Imperia great seafaring tradition, for sure had no idea the meeting would turn in a few years in the most important gathering of the kind on the international scene, capable to attract more than 100.000 visitors (from Italy and abroad) in five days.

The link between the two historical parts of Imperia (Porto Maurizio and Oneglia) and the sea, their chief source of support, has always existed. Fisherman, seamen, seawolves, carpenters: long is the list of Imperia citizen that have dedicated their life to the discovery of the ocean routes and misteries. Here explained the reasons of this meeting. To celebrate in a proper way the architects creator of a jewels such as Dorade was the absolute protagonist of the very last meeting: at the wheel of his creature celebrated with pomp his 90th birthday greeted by everybody.
Meeting no. 11, first of 21st century, is dedicated to Charles Nicholson, designer of famous Creole, a threemasted schooner owned by Allegra and Alessandra Gucci, this year too at the mooring in Imperia.

The 2000 gathering brings along interesting news: first of all the entry of a "title sponsor" such as Prada and therelated entry of Imperia Vintage Sails Meeting in the "Prada Challenged for Classic Yachts" circuit, a rich official website (with all these sailors, it couldn't be but so), and, lat but not least the partnership with major radio and internet networks that will grant Imperia Vintage Sails Meeting 2000 worldwide visibility.

In short,…….a parade combining glamour and show, competition and passion for sailing. A happening that besides from offering the most beautiful creations of human genius in yachting is especially a love deed towards the sea.
